I primarily judge a book by its front cover and obviously, its title. I am a very visual person and therefore, the front cover of a book can either catch my attention, or ruin the entire book for me. The title also is very important as it in an inclination on what the book is going to be about. One book that caught my attention early and maintained it was Twilight. The front cover of Twilight it a simple black background with an apple and a set of pale hands. This is very mysterious and leaves the reader wondering what this could symbolize. The book is about vampires and the pale hands represent the vampire and the apple represents forbidden fruit. This is shown to the reader throughout the novel and makes for a very interesting read.
ReplyDeleteA picture is worth a thousand words. They capture a glimpse in time that cannot be duplicated or specifically described in only words. Our eyes don’t only link an image to our brain, but they also attach emotions, desires, and past experiences so that we can connect to what we are seeing. The more connections your brain makes to an image, the more the image means to you, which means that the image will be retained inside your memory bank longer than a picture that you cannot relate to. This opinion can be easily transferred to book covers. In most instances, the author chooses an image that either is visually appealing, questioning, foreshadows major events in the book, or relates to the text. A bland cover usually results in considering a different novel, but a cover that stands out, regardless of the content, usually results in giving it a shot.
